White Pittbulls Stop Stilwell

Article by Denny Bland

The 6th Grade White once again hit the road this week to Stillwell, OK and they once again controlled the host team in an easy 35 to 12 victory. The host team evidently failed to hear the air raid sirens as the Pittbulls hit town. Greenwood blitzed the Indians behind the arm of quarterback Reid Wheeler and a defense that gift-wrapped turnovers and field position all night long.

From the opening kick, which Kyler Watson returned all the way down to the 5 yard line. This game was never in doubt. Tanner Cooper scored easily on a run and the PAT was missed to make the score 6-0. The Indians then got their shot but Trey Hamilton made a big hit on the first offensive play and created a fumble that Kolten Hughes pounced on. Wheeler then connected on a long pass to Seth Bland to the 14 yard line. Hughes would sprint in from there and Drew Ulmer added the PAT to make it 14-0. The rout was on. On the Indian’s next series, the defense once again created a turnover after some tough tackles by Nick Walton and Tyler Cox. Stilwell botched a pitched and Bland recovered for the Pittbulls. This time Greenwood misfired and coughed one up back to Stilwell. With 2:01 left still in first quarter, Stillwell was not having any success on the stubborn Pittbulls. They gained no positive yards on three straight plays including a huge sack by Tanner Wiley. The Indians were forced to punt on 4th and 22.

Greenwood then went offensive again, this time behind the strong legs of Cooper and Wiley on long runs of 25 and 15 yards. Then, Jordan McKinley got in the act with hard nosed runs and with 5:11 left in the second quarter bulled his way in for a touchdown. Cox would add the PAT to make the score 22 to zip. The Indians got the ball yet again to give it right back to an opportunistic Pittbull team. Garrett Miller stepped in front of a pass and returned in deep in Indian territory. Wheeler wasted no time and threw a beautiful pass over the top of the defense to Hughes who got well behind the secondary. Hughes second touchdown made the score 28-0 with 3:50 to go in the half as the PAT failed. The Indians would try yet again only to lose another fumble but got a favorable call. Stilwell had nothing though and a punt right before half gave the ball back to the potent Pittbulls offense. Greenwood would take over from their own 37 with 1:29 to go and after a long run by Cooper. Wheeler threw another lightning bolt to Brandon Tolbert and he hauled in the pass and made a nice run for a score from 45 yards out. Trey Hamilton added the PAT run to make the score 35 to zip.

Greenwood rested the second half and put the game on cruise control. Stilwell added a couple of meaningless scores and the final would be 35-12. The White Pittbulls moved to 5-3 on the year. They will face their toughest challenge in the year Saturday
