Bulldog pride starts here

White Sixth Grade Swarm Westville

Article by Denny Bland

The 6th Grade White made the long trek to Westville, OK Saturday night and came away with an easy win. The visiting Pittbulls made quick work of the host Yellow Jackets. Greenwood was clicking on both sides of the ball with lightning quick scores and a stifling defense. The end result would be the White’s 4th victory on the year with a 28 to 6 win.

Greenwood took the opening kick and immediately marched down the field. The running backs, Tanner Cooper and Tanner Wiley, gashed the Jackets from the onset. Reid Wheeler used a pass to Kyler Watson to setup a short yardage situation that Cooper broke lose for a huge gain to the goal line. Wiley would mop up with the game’s first score but his PAT would fail to notch it 6-0. Preceding the kick, the defense made their presence known by allowing no positive yardage and forcing a punt. Greenwood could not capitalize though and traded possessions. On their third possession, the PIttbulls would use Ty Wyckoff on the ground first with a 25 yard gain on a reverse. Next, Cooper would knife thru for another 12 yards and then Wheeler would throw a pretty one to Wyckoff for a 30 yard completion. This would set up Wheeler’s first touchdown pass of the night to Watson and the PAT was successful to move to 14-0.

The defense once again allowed no positive yardage led by Drew Ulmer, who seemed to be in the backfield all night. The Pittbulls would force a punt right before half and go to work yet again. After good first down yardage runs by Wiley and Jordan McKinley, Cooper would make a 20 yard run keystone cops would be jealous of. Wyckoff would pad his multi-purpose stats with another 11 yard run. Then, Wheeler threw his second touchdown pass to Seth Bland with just under 28 seconds in the half. The score at the break would be 20-0 as the PAT failed.

In the second frame, Greenwood would stake its final score much like it did in the first half, with ground control runs by Cooper, Wiley and Brandon Tolbert. Then yet another 30 yard pass as Wheeler would go over the top to Wyckoff again. Cooper would set up another Wiley touchdown, the second on the night for him. Tyler Cox would add the PAT to make it 28 to nothing. Greenwood would back off the throttle and coast from there. Westville added a late meaningless score before time expired. Their PAT would fail making the final 28-6.

Greenwood’s “big donkeys” comprised of Cox, Ulmer, Trey Hamilton, Nick Walton, and Nick Houston paved the way all night for the playmakers. They gave plenty of time and the ground game blew up the Jackets.  The win moved the Pittbulls to a record of 4-2 on the year. The White will travel to Stilwell, OK in their final tune-up before their showdown with an unbeaten Greenwood Blue in the season finale.
